Role Overview

American Express is embarking on an exciting digital transformation, driven by a team of high performers. We’re looking for a Software Developer who is skilled in Java and has a deep understanding of web fundamentals to help develop and uplift web applications. You’ll work alongside architects and engineers to develop web applications using the latest backend server technologies like Spring Boot, Drop Wizard, and Vertx, impacting millions of customers globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Software Development:

  • Develop responsive web applications using the best engineering practices.

  • Perform hands-on software development, including writing code and unit tests, conducting code reviews, and testing in ongoing sprints.

  • Perform refactoring and continuous improvement of code.

• Agile Development:

  • Serve as a core member of an Agile team to analyze user stories and design solutions.

  • Embrace emerging standards while promoting best practices and consistent framework usage.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, back-end and front-end engineers to solve complex web development challenges.

• Testing & Quality:

  • Develop using Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD) practices.

  • Conduct various tests including unit testing, system integration testing, regression testing, GUI testing, and web service testing.

  • Use frameworks such as Selenium, JUnit, Mockito, and Cucumber for testing.

• System Integration:

  • Understand integrations with other systems and platforms within supported domains.

• Innovation:

  • Foster a culture of innovation, challenge the status quo, and contribute creative solutions.

  • Focus on delivering value while working independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Education:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

• Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience working in Java and Pega (Java 7 minimum, Java 8 preferred).

  • PEGA CSSA certification is required.

  • Strong understanding of web fundamentals and HTTP protocol.

• Technical Skills:

  • Java development experience in an enterprise setting.

  • Experience with PegaRULES Process Commander or other BPM systems.

  • Experience in Spring, Spring Boot, Drop Wizard, Vertx, Test Driven Development (TDD), and Behavior Driven Development (BDD).

  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery environments.

  • Experience working in an Agile or SAFe development environment is a plus.

Responsibilities Include:

• Collaborating in an Agile environment to drive user story analysis and development of responsive web applications.

• Spending the majority of time in hands-on development, including unit testing, proof of concepts, and code reviews.

• Refactoring code and implementing continuous improvements.

• Working closely with other engineers to develop and maintain complex web solutions.
