Job Title: Children’s Books Designer
Department: Publishing / Design
Reports To: Art Director / Creative Director
Job Type: Full-time

Job Summary:

We are looking for a creative, detail-oriented Children’s Books Designer to join our publishing team. This role involves designing visually appealing, age-appropriate layouts and illustrations for children's books, collaborating closely with authors, illustrators, and editors to bring stories to life in a way that captivates young readers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design the layout and visual style for children’s books, including covers and interiors.
• Collaborate with authors and illustrators to develop visual concepts that match the tone, theme, and age group of the book.
• Ensure the visual storytelling complements and enhances the written narrative.
• Choose and format typefaces and font sizes appropriate for children’s reading levels.
• Prepare artwork, images, and layout files for print and digital publication.
• Work with printers and production teams to ensure high-quality final output.
• Stay current with trends in children’s publishing, design, and illustration.
• Create mock-ups and prototypes for presentations and marketing.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Arts, or a related field.
• Proven experience in book design, preferably in children’s publishing.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating design skills, especially in layout and illustration for children.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Understanding of child development stages and how they influence design choices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to take feedback and revise designs accordingly.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with interactive or digital children’s books.
• Knowledge of book printing processes and production.
• Skills in hand-drawing or digital illustration.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards for young readers.
